I hate fake flowers. I hate the smell of them more than anything. I wouldn't be caught dead having fake flowers anywhere, ever.

Reply:It depends on what kind of fake flowers your using. Red roses tend to be a bad choice from what i have seen from my own experience. There are many really nice fake flowers that look very real but depending on how simple your arrangements are it may actually end up being less expensive to buy real flowers. I found that roses can be less expensive if you buy real ones in bulk and arrange very simple, small arrangement yourself. It depends on how much time and help you have though. Silk flowers are great, no one will notice and if they do they will probably think its pretty and if not, maybe they shouldn't be at your wedding.
Reply:First preference would be real. i have seen some beautiful fake ones though and would look into those. Not those silver or glittery fake ones. The ones you can tell are fake from a mile away.

Reply:I prefer the word "silk" over "fake"...I'm using them and I'll have you know you save alot of $$ by doing that too. :) Mine look really real...gorgeous in fact. :))
Reply:I never, ever in a million years imagined I would do this... but we are having fake flowers for mine (bride) and the BM's bouquets.



Fiancé %26amp; I are paying for the wedding ourselves, and the photographer %26amp; caterer are so freakin' expensive that we don't have much $$ left over. We will have real flowers for our mothers %26amp; for my fiancé. There will also be real flowers all over the place decorating the reception (last fall I bought a *ton* of spring bulbs. Planted them in plastic pots in my garage %26amp; am now bringing them out to force them to bloom. This saved a bit of $$)



It makes me sad ~ especially since I have a green thumb ~ multiple houseplants, gardens, etc. I love real flowers %26amp; have never in my life had fakes before this. However, this is what made the most sense, budget wise.

Fakes can look really tacky sometimes and i think for a wedding you can atleast treat yourself to real flowers ..they look better %26amp; smell good
Reply:i had both, we did our own flowers so fake ones allowed us to do them ahead of time. i was also able to keep my bouquet because of this (i'm considering renewing our vows someday and maybe using the same flowers). you do have to watch what flowers you are buying some just look bad, if you look around for colors rather than types you can find some very nice flowers that will work with what you want. fresh flowers are nice because they are fresh, they smell good and look nice. everyone at our wedding thought all the fake flowers were fresh, so you can fool the eye.
Reply:I had real ones at my wedding because I'm a bit of a traditionalist but I've been in weddings where they used good quality silk flowers and nobody knew the difference. Plus the arrangements last forever! :) By the end of my wedding the flowers that the men were wearing were all wilted and falling apart. You don't have that with fake ones. My sister still has the bouquet from her wedding. The flowers look so real that you actually have to touch them to tell that they're not.



If you're considering using fake ones go for it! Just make sure you get decent quality ones, the cheapos are pretty bad.
Reply:I used silk flowers at our wedding and it looked really good. The reason that I did that is because my husband and his mom and dad are allergic to real roses and that is the flower that i used. But i found some that looked amazing and you could not tell the difference.
Reply:I thought about that for my wedding, but after I purchased them, and put them out on a mirror, they looked very cheap. I think real flowers are more appropriate for a wedding. It's only about $2.50 per table to have them scattered.
Reply:Honestly I hate fake flowers. They look fake and smell fake. They will save you some money but in my opinion it's not worth it. You can get real flowers that will hold up and look good all day if you talk to your florist. I'm sure I'll get some thumbs down from the fake flowers brides so I want to reiterate that this is only my opinion.

I enjoy real flowers too much to have fake ones. Plus, I think decorating with fake flowers is tacky most of the time.
Reply:I made bouquets for a friends wedding out of silk flowers and maybe it was the flower choice but they looked amazingly gorgeous in the pictures! They didn't look artificial at all...and she sold the whole set on ebay making back 2/3 what we spent to make them.

1: Wouldn't have to pay as much for them

2: They're prettier

3: Guests with allergies wouldn't have to worry

4: I could keep my bouquet!
Reply:If you are on a budget silk flowers are a great alternative. We're using them for several reasons, including allergic reactions that some of the guests have. We can get out of season blooms, they don't wilt, we can buy them on sale and then resell them afterwards to recoup some cash, I don't have to worry about the smell overpowering the room like some real flowers can....



I don't like it when the bride goes and picks out the super fake looking ones from Dollar Tree but the higher end ones like Hobby Lobby or Garden Ridge are very convincing.

depending on the quality, you sometimes cannot tell the difference in real and fake. but some fake flowers look really tacky
Reply:It all depends on the quality of the fake flower. I've seen some that look real and others that look like crap. My sister did her wedding in fake flowers and they turned out really nice. I had real flowers but only because my MoH's mother offered to do them for free. Sometimes fake can be just as if not more expensive as real flowers, so I'd research.
Reply:While fake flowers are easier to arrange for photography, and they obviously last longer lol, I will be having real flowers. I love the smell of them, plus I think they add to the mood.

They wouldn't be my first choice, but I wouldn't think anything of it if I was at a wedding with them.
Reply:I had almost all silk flowers at my wedding. Some of them are actually really pretty. I made everything for my wedding by myself, so the best part about them was that I could work on the bouquets and the centerpieces months in advance and just store them up until the wedding. Much less stressful! And they always look the same as they did that day because they never dry up.
Reply:My FH and I are both allergic to just about anything that pollenates. For that reason alone, we're going with silk flowers. Plus we live in a region that sees crazy weather patterns year round. The supply of certain kinds of fresh flowers may be limited depending on what Mother Nature decides to throw at us!
Reply:I think that some fake or silk flowers are very attractive and would be a good choice if you want to keep them as a remeberance of your special day. Real flowers are also nice, but they don't last as long. So it is up to you if you want to keep the flowers or not. You could always keep the real flowers and have them dried out.?
