Is there a difference in using memorial candles, and flowers at a wedding in memory of a loved one?

I am seeking to know if there some spiritual or mystical signficance attached to the use of memorial candles, as opposed to the use of flowers.

Is there a difference in using memorial candles, and flowers at a wedding in memory of a loved one?
I'm not sure, I think the candles are symbolic of their light shining on..

My husband lost a daughter to illness before we met, and at our wedding we released butterflies in memory of her. The program contained this poem:

The Butterfly

He had her there, resting on the palm of his hand for a while.

She was all he ever wanted.

Sometimes her wings were closed.

Motionless.

At other times, she spread her wings open in the bright sunshine,

displaying her colourful patterns.

He truly loved her.

She knew that.

He told her she was special and beautiful, he saw the beauty.

He appreciated her true colours.

But he couldn't keep her.

He knew that.

She was born to fly.

She had been beautiful in his hand, but in flight she soared.

In the garden amongst the colourful, sweet-fragranced flowers.

Her habitat.

Free.

In letting her go, he made her happy.

But she was always to remember his warmth and his love.

Always and forever.

For all of eternity.

It was a nice way for him to remember his daughter on a day when he would have liked for her to be there. We thought about candles and flowers, but wanted to do something special that was all our own. Get creative! It's your day- remember those you love in your own way!
Reply:candles supposedly are significant in that the smoke represents their soul going up to heaven.

for a wedding, i would take a less heady approach and go with flowers.
Reply:MEMORIAL CANDLES IS SPECIAL -- ITS REALLY USED FOR FAMILY MEMBERS WHO IS DECEASED %26amp; NOT ABLE TO BE THERE TO ENJOY THE CELEBRATION. FOR EXAMPLE IN SOME CHRUCHES BEFORE THE WORD IS TAUGHT THE LIGHTING OF CANDLES IS LIT FOR REMEBERANCE OF THE LORD %26amp; SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST
Reply:I don't think there is a difference. I've seen both.
Reply:I'm getting married in Jan. and we are using both....five candles in a votive around a beautiful vase of white and red roses, we will sit it all on the church piano.
Reply:Just preference.

Some locations can handle one better than the other. that's how I decided for my two daughters' weddings.

Do what you feel is most appropriate way to honor them.
Reply:Either one can be used - depends on what you most prefer. I think both would be beautiful.
