Are there "No, No's" when choosing wedding flowers/themes depending on the time of year?

I am getting married in Rome, Italy in June. Ceremony and reception will take place at sunset, on the penthouse terrace, overlooking the eternal city. The hotel is one of the top rated in the world. We are envisioning a small, ultra elegant, black tie affair. I would like to carry a cascading red rose bouquet, and have the terrace adorned with white and red roses and pedals. I've read that red roses are for winter weddings and lighter color roses for spring/summer. Is the color theme I envision too harsh or inappropriate for a June wedding? The wedding planner thinks I should carry all white roses but I'd like a contrast against the dress. My matron of honor would carry red and white roses and wear a red dress(so I plan). My fiance will wear a black tux of course with a red silk vest and tie. Should I rethink the flowers and color theme? Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks :)

I think that everything that you mentioned sounds absolutely gorgeous! Your colors are fine, and carrying red roses is timeless regardless of the season. What you have described is a theme of timeless, classic, romantic elegance. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise!
Reply:I think it sounds beautiful!

To give your planner a better idea of what you want, perhaps you should just say that white does not give you the striking contrast and classic romantic feel that you are looking for. Their job is to help you get what you want.

Lastly in answering the "no-no" question, the only really big no-no is to set your heart on something that is out of season when you're getting married. Peonies are the most commonly wanted unattainable flower among brides in my region. My advice is to get a flower in the height of it's glory as you are in yours.
Reply:Your event planner sounds as if she is trying to guide you into what she envisions instead of what you want as the bride. Roses (any color) are an elegant statement and colors can be used at anytime of the year. Some Planners like to work with what they feel is mandatory and others let the bride be.

No need to rethink the flowers or the color theme.......
Reply:Hi and congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

Rome, Italy....oh how romantic!! Beautiful!

Hey...you are a girl after my own heart....I am constantly suggesting red roses to people....I just LOVE red roses.

Really, I think red roses are good all year...not just for winter weddings. The ONLY thing I have a concern about is the time of day...sunset. While very romantic, I am wondering how any pictures will look if you do have a red rose bouquet. I don't know...maybe too dark?? But, I think I would still go with it! I too love the contrast with the red roses again the white dress instead of the white dress and white flowers.

I hope you have a beautiful wedding! It certainly sounds romantic and elegant!
Reply:If you go against what you like on the biggest day of your life, you'll regret it for the rest of your life.
Reply:It's your wedding, do as you please. This is one day, you will always remember.
Reply:The only rules are to use flowers that are in season unless you want to pay extra for them, and use whatever colors/theme you want. There are no rules anymore saying you can't use darks in summer or pastels in winter if you love those colors.
Reply:I like your idea of carrying red roses and your BM carrying white in a red dress. Wedding planners are great, but sometimes they do not listen to the bride. Red is a fine color for June, and don't let anyone talk you out of what you want for your wedding. If you have the money, and want it, do it your way!
